Take a class at SPNN Access!

If you've taken a class at SPNN Youth and are interested in producing work on your own outside of SOL, take a look at the upcoming workshops at SPNN Access.  Access classes are a great opportunity to build your skills and an Access membership allows you to check out non-youth equipment and reserve time in the downstairs editing suites. Many of these classes are free, and all provide discounts for students and those with limited incomes.

Apply to be a Neighborhood Video Project Peer Mentor - Deadline Extended!

 

 

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a young person aged 14-21 to assist with our Spring 2010 Neighborhood Video Project class.

The Neighborhood Video Project, in partnership with Saint Paul community organizations, filmmakers, and historians, works with middle school-aged youth to explore the history of their neighborhoods and produce videos about each community's unique challenges and possiblilties.

This spring we'll work with youth from the West 7th neighborhood at Palace Recreation Center.

Youth Action Committee first meeting!

Youth Action Committee will hold its first meeting over pizza and pop on Tuesday, January 12 and will meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month.  YAC was created ensure a youth voice at SPNN, increase youth involvement and opportunities at SPNN, and develop youth leaders. The committee's main focus will be to promote youth media in festivals, online, and at community screenings.

SOL Winter Hours - Come Work on an Independent Project!

SPNN Youth Open Lab (SOL) is open for winter hours on Mondays from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.  SOL supports youth who are involved in SPNN's Youth programs to plan and create independent media projects.  These projects range from documentaries to music videos and experimental films.  Youth can drop by anytime during SOL's hours to plan projects, check out equipment, and use our media lab to finish their productions.  SPNN Youth staff will be on hand to advise, s

Set It Up-Date

Set It Up is mid-episode!  The crew has shot some great footage in the community and in the studio and begun to edit their segments for Set It Up 09-10 Episode 1 "Teens in the City: A look at the positive things teens are doing around St. Paul."  Parents Night dinner and information session is coming up on January 11 from 6-7pm and is a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to find out more about Set It Up!

Neighborhood Video Project - Screenings!

Neighborhood Video Project celebrated our first class of the year with a screening at Skyline Tower on December 19.
The NVP class shared their documentaries (about streetcars and an oral history of Skyline) and video diaries with residents, family, friends, Skyline Staff and youth workers and participated in a Q&A. Thanks to all who came out.
