Celebrate Black History Month with SPNN

SPNN is committed to showcasing and celebrating the diversity of voices that exist in our community. This February, in honor of Black History Month, we will be featuring a variety of programs on SPNN Channel 19 that celebrate and document the experience of African-Americans in St. Paul and beyond. Programs can be watched all month long on Channel 19, or streaming online in our special Black History Month playlist.

Featured programs include:

Conversations with Al McFarlane

2012 MLK Day Celebration: Looking Back, Looking Forward now airing

SPNN is pleased to continue our traditional coverage of the Martin Luther King Day Celebration held at Concordia University in St. Paul. This year's celebration, Looking Back, Looking Forward, was marked with musical and spoken-word performances, as well as remarks by Mayors Chris Coleman, R.T. Rybak, Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken. The keynote speaker was Bishop William Watson, III.

Ghostbustin' 911 now airing on SPNN

What happens when you combine poker, watching “Cops”, and a Ghostbusters Halloween costume?  If you are Jason Skoby, you create a mock reality show called Ghostbustin’ 911.

Skoby has been interested in film and video since high school, volunteering on shoots for CTV in Roseville and even spent two years writing a short film.  When the film script was stolen out of his car, he decided to concentrate on working other people’s productions.

TV is changing and we need to keep up

In the typical family room there used to be a television, than the gaming counsel and the computer were added.  Now they are becoming interchangeable.  People don’t sit down to watch television the same way anymore and you need to keep up.

Cable companies now have on demand services and televisions now have WiFi connections and SDI inputs for your computer.  You can now surf YouTube, Hulu or other media sites and watch the content on your television.  This means you can watch what you want when you want and you don’t have to watch it on a tiny screen.
