Youth Action Committee wraps up a great year

Members of the YAC with Kevin Kall and Joua Lee.The Youth Action Committee (YAC) held their last meeting of the 2011-12 school-year at SPNN at the end of May. At this meeting, the group bonded over a great year of creative projects, film and video festivals, hard work and friendship.

The meeting started off with a delicious Chinese take-out dinner and the regular check-ins. Nicola, the director of Youth Programs announced next year's CTEP Americorps member for SPNN: Emily Krumberger will be joining us after current CTEP member Joua Lee leaves in the beginning of September.

The committee then gave final feedback about SPNN Youth's new logo. The group admired its design, an idea which YAC member Destiny Roberts originally designed and graphic designer John Seymour-Anderson further developed.

The group then reflected on the highlights of the past year. YAC Members created promo videos for different SPNN Youth opportunities and a PSA about Minneapolis Television Network's budget cuts. They also had fun participating in the SPNN Showboat event last fall, the Twin Cities Youth Media Network (TCYMN) Media Market, and the TCYMN Showcase. The youth enjoyed their field trip to the Minnesota History Center's LOL Exhibit where YAC member Breon Jones's work was showing. Members enjoyed getting hands-on with reorganizing the media lab, redesigning the logo, and interviewing candidates for next year's CTEP member.

As a final project, the committee hung up photos in the media lab. The pictures were pulled from several programs in the span of the past year. The team admired their final project and reminisced about events in the photos.

The Youth Action Committee is a leadership team for teens at the St. Paul Neighborhood Network. Members give input on how to further enrich the youth experience at SPNN and create a youth presence in our community. For more information, contact Joua Lee at Lee@spnn.org. YAC meetings for the summer will start on June 25th, 2012.
