Community Productions and Youth team up to film SPPS graduations

Each spring in St. Paul, thousands of young people participate in a tradition that marks their passage into adulthood and celebrates the successful completion of their secondary educations- graduation. Many walk across the stage of the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in downtown, and SPNN’s Community Productions Department is there to capture the experience for Saint Paul Public Schools..

This year, in addition to our seasoned production crew, we hired several young people from the SPNN Youth Department to assist with production. Having learned professional skills by participating in programs like Set It Up and the Youth Action Committee, Ari Conroy, RayLynn Prokasky, Kyle Kucsmarski, and Natalia Salinas worked alongside our regular crew for three days. The graduations will be airing on SPNN Channel 16, and were also projected live above the stage during each ceremony.

The youth had a great time working with the more experienced crew. Over the course of the production they developed a good rapport, laughing and chatting while they were free and getting down to business quickly and efficiently. We’re always excited about opportunities for departments to work together, and to give youth a chance to grow their professional skills.
