Your Legislators begins 31st season
On Thursday, January 19th, Your Legislators returned to our studio to begin it’s 31st season. A production of Pioneer Public Television, Your Legislators is broadcast live throughout the state and created with the assistance of SPNN. The program, moderated for more than two decades by Supreme Court Associate Justice Barry Anderson, offers citizens a weekly opportunity to connect with elected officials.
SPNN provides Your Legislators with experienced crew and a studio in close proximity to the state capitol. Most of the crew members- from camera operators to switchers- first cut their teeth as members of SPNN’s Access Center. They created and produced their own programs, as well as working on other productions. They continue to pursue their own shows while working as valued contractors for SPNN’s Community Productions department.
The premiere episode featured Sen. Scott Dibble, Sen. Dave Thompson, Rep. Michael Paymar, and Rep. Michael Beard. They covered a range of topics that will be pursued in the new legislative season. One viewer called in with a question about what will be done about the risk of dogs caught in hunting traps that stumped most of the panelists, but all agreed it was an issue they should research further. They finished the program with a discussion of the upcoming issue if and how much money should go towards the Vikings stadium, with the legislators representing a variety of viewpoints on how to move forward.
Your Legislators will continue each Thursday evening at 8pm, through the end of the current legislative session. The program is aired live in St. Paul on channel 19, and on public television stations throughout the state. Please visit http://www.pioneer.org/yourlegislators.php for local listings.
