Ghostbustin' 911 now airing on SPNN

What happens when you combine poker, watching “Cops”, and a Ghostbusters Halloween costume? If you are Jason Skoby, you create a mock reality show called Ghostbustin’ 911.
Skoby has been interested in film and video since high school, volunteering on shoots for CTV in Roseville and even spent two years writing a short film. When the film script was stolen out of his car, he decided to concentrate on working other people’s productions.
That is until he decided to make a Ghostbusters costume one Halloween. Skoby has always enjoyed art cars and decided to build his own version of the Ghostbusters 1 car for Halloween 2006 . He also made proton packs for himself and three of his friends. One of Skoby’s friends wanted to make a film using the props, but it wasn’t until one night playing poker and watching “Cops” that the idea for Ghostbustin’ 911 came to Skoby.
The group of friends wanted to do a show that didn’t require a lot of set up time or fancy equipment. Shortly after starting the first episode things started falling into place. At an art car parade they met a huge fan of the original movie and he volunteered to do the editing. At Convergence 2008, a local sci-fi convention, they met Ernie Hudson, who played Winston in the original movie, and he offered to do a cameo. There is a core group of five people producing the show, plus an outer ring of 12 to help with cameras, lights, and sound. Since they began, more than 52 people have been involved with the project.
What started out as just an idea in 2007 has become 6 complete half hour episodes with a seventh on the way. The project has seen great success as they’ve unleashed their creation on the Twin Cities. The teams has a website dedicated to the show with out takes and behind the scenes footage and a fan base all around the world. A number of the local actors on the show have gone onto bigger projects. There are even future plans to have Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes do cameos as Jay and Silent Bob
SPNN will be airing episodes 1-4 Saturday, January 28th from 10PM-Midnight and episode 5 on Sunday night at 11PM. For more times and dates check out the SPNN website.
