SPNN brings you the 2012 Elections: Your vote is your voice

Each year, as part of our ongoing mission to connect the St. Paul community, we partner with a variety of community groups to bring our viewers local candidate forums and elections coverage. This year we’re bringing you vital information about Minnesota state senate elections in Districts 64, 65, and 66; the US Congressional District 4 election; and the US presidential election, in addition to several districts outside of Ramsey County.

Learning to teach: CTEP members develop new skills

Last week, our CTEP AmeriCorps members met at CLUES in Minneapolis to discuss the important work of curriculum development. Joined by professionals from a variety of local non-profits, as well as CTEP alumni, members spent the day learning how to plan curriculum for youth and adults, how to handle difficult situations, and how to best connect with students.

"So You Wanna Make a Doc" workshop helps new documentarians find their way

The SPNN Access Center kicked off its first ever series of documentary workshops on September 18th, with So You Wanna Make a Doc. SPNN staff were inspired to offer the series to the community by the widespread interest in the Doc U program, a documentary filmmaking mentorship with a limited number of spots.

On August 30, SPNN Youth took a break at the end of our full-steam-ahead summer programming schedule to reflect on the work we do with youth and staff involved in our programs and chart our direction for the coming year.  This process, called, the "SPNN Youth Retreat", is in its third year, and has become an integral part of our yearly process of evaluating significant accomplishments over the past year and looking forward to identify what lies ahead.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services air live on SPNN 14

This weekend, SPNN Channel 14 will air Rosh Hashanah services live from Mount Zion Temple in St. Paul on September 16 from 7:30PM-9:30PM and September 17 from 11:45-2:30.

During this time, some regular shows will be preempted. They will air on Sunday, September 16th at:
Last Hour will air on Monday September 17 at 10AM and 5PM.
Tomorrow World will air on Tuesday at 11:30AM and 6:30PM.
Key to the Kingdom will air Wednesday at 12:30PM and 7:30PM.

The Community Technology Empowerment Project (CTEP) AmeriCorp Program is SPNN’s largest program, helping bridge the digital divide for thousands of people in the Twin Cities through community service. Each fall, 30 people dedicate a year of their lives to working on technology with diverse populations at a variety of non-profit spaces.

The Community Technology Empowerment Program (CTEP) AmeriCorps program at SPNN not only broadens our general programming reach in the Twin Cities metro area, it also enriches our day to day experience at our home office when a new SPNN Youth CTEP member joins the staff each year. Fall is the time when we celebrate the service contributions of our outgoing CTEP member and prepare a warm welcome for our new addition. In August, we bade farewell to outgoing CTEP member Joua Lee. Before parting ways, Joua wrote a final message to the organization about her experience...

SPNN seeks a new Executive Director

Earlier this week, SPNN's Executive Director Mike Wassenaar announced his resignation,  effective March 1, 2013. We are now beginning the search for a new Executive Director to lead the organization.
