This winter SPNN Youth is partnering with Saint Paul Parks and Recreation to offer the Neighborhood Video Project in West 7th – a free video workshop for middle school aged youth in the West 7th neighborhood. The Project offers participating youth producers the opportunity to learn the history of their neighborhoods in order to become the authors of their communities' histories. Youth will gain video production skills and also a greater understanding and awareness of the unique challenges and possibilities their neighborhoods face. Participating youth will collaborative with filmmakers, historians and community members to create their pieces and will use their videos to increase visibility of neighborhood issues.

SPNN Youth is currently accepting applications for a filmmaker consultant to work with youth as an instructor and sounding board for 15 hours over the course of the 12 week (February 2-April 17) program.

The Filmmaker consultant will teach visual storytelling, may provide examples from their own work, and will assist with technical instruction and support. The consultant will help with the creation of scripts and the writing of interview questions. They will be present during shoots to offer suggestions and support. The Filmmaker consultant may act as a first critic, providing input on rough cuts of videos and offering editing and additional shooting suggestions.

Whenever possible we will hire consultants who live and work in the neighborhood. In hiring staff we will emphasize experience and qualifications based on experience and interest with youth work.

The Filmmaker Consultant will be paid for 15 hours of work at the rate of $30/ hr. This position is open until filled. Interested applications should contact Mary Pumphrey, Neighborhood Video Project Coordinator, at Pumphrey@spnn.org.
