Time to get this Doc Started

An eclectic group of eager students gathered Monday night to kick off year two of Doc U, our documentary filmmaking mentorship program for low-income adults.  SPNN would like to welcome the twelve new participants: James Whitfield, Mecca Bos, Jennifer Show, Veronica Ochoa, Alejandro Perez Olivares, Annie Modesit, Kreshun Irby, Sydney Howell, Abdul Sannie, Vageline Ortega, Chamath Perera, and Bobby Rust.

Learning to do what you love

It’s been a long time (longer than I would like to admit!) since I’ve had to worry about finals, papers, and class projects or to contemplate what it is that I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Five college juniors and seniors put aside the daily grind of college life to do just that when they visited the SPNN studios earlier this month.

At 62 years of age and semi-retired, Bonnie Peace Watkins knows exactly who she is and what she wants. She's had decades of articulating her passions in life. Feminist direction, the economic status of older people, writing, and video production top her list. After joining SPNN in February of 2012, Watkins acquired another kit of tools with which to express her interests.

Happily married and strongly in love with one another, Tasha R. Lockhart, 33, and Reverence V. Lockhart, 43, share a deep commitment to their community, their ministry, and to God. Together, they produce a religious program entitled Know Your Word and a community awareness program, Let's Talk About It. Tasha and Reverence, who are parents to eleven beautiful children, have been members of SPNN since 2007.

Out with the old in with the new...almost

Twenty-five members have taken the first step in moving their production to HD. This Winter/Spring SPNN will be transitioning from our workhorse SD DSR 250 camera into our new HD AX2000.  To get members ready for the transition, we held three AX2000 sessions on Saturday. Members liked the small size (similar in size to the PD 170) and ease of use.

85 inch TVs or mobile devices- what is the future?

In an era where the buzz word is mobile, Samsung has decided bigger really is better. At the International Consumer Electronics Show they debuted an 85 inch Ultra High Definition TV screen.  Even if you could afford to buy this big screen that is expected to come out later this year, will you watch TV the way you did five years ago?
